From ultra-mobile PCs to high-end systems built for the road warrior, here's a look at what's sleek, light and fast in the notebook PC space.
That vendor, Dallas-based NTRglobal North America, has partnered with two environmental groups as part of a green initiative to fund reforestation and is urging other technology-focused companies to get their hands dirty as well. Basically, NTRglobal is saying that IT needs to plant a tree.
NTRglobal makes remote support and remote administration solutions, tools the vendor says cut down on travel and the harmful pollutants it introduces when trucks are rolled for support calls. On Tuesday, NTRglobal announced that it's teaming up with Plant-It 2002 and TreeLink to help the environment a little bit more.
Plant-It 2020, started by the late great John Denver, is a non-profit dedicated to planting, maintaining and protecting indigenous trees in hopes of increasing crop production, fresh water availability and wood for fuel via dropped branches. TreeLink, another non-profit, supports urban tree planting, education and care. Through its TreeBank program, TreeLink builds local branches (no pun intended) in cities and towns enabling them to develop a community fund for tree planting, care and education.
According to NTRglobal, with every new client a contribution will be made toward tree planting, care and education. The partnerships are expected to raise green business awareness and result in the planting of thousands of trees.
"It's time for IT-related companies, especially worldwide organizations like NTRglobal, to actually join the fight rather than just talk," said NTRglobal North America CEO Andre Angel in a statement. "That's why we're pledging to help fund reforestation."
If you're scratching your head about what difference this makes, consider that in one single year an acre of trees can absorb an amount of CO2 equal to driving a car 8,000 miles.
"Now imagine the impact if dozens or hundreds of other companies join us in this," Angel said. "Conservatively speaking, what we are doing alone could fund the planting of hundreds of thousands trees over the next three years -- and if others join in, the effects will be multiplied. So you can see that what we want to do goes well beyond reforestation. We want to challenge other companies to join us in going green."
