Microsoft Already Looking Ahead To Next Dynamics GP Release

ERP

Dynamics GP 2010 R2 will offer new "contextual business intelligence" capabilities and new ease-of-use features for making information more accessible throughout an organization, Microsoft said Thursday.

Dynamics GP, formerly Great Plains Software before Microsoft acquired it in 2001, is Microsoft's key mid-market ERP suite with which it competes against NetSuite, SAP and other vendors.

Microsoft began shipping the current release of the application set on May 1, the first upgrade of the product since June 2007.

Last month Microsoft said it was changing the way it compensates Dynamics application resellers, offering higher margins for partners that emphasize sales growth and bring in new customers.

Dynamics GP 2010 R2 will make more role-specific information available through an improved user interface and personalized dashboards, according to Microsoft, and through new connections between the applications and Microsoft Lync 2010 instant messaging windows. The next release also will sport improved approval workflow and electronic signature capabilities.

Microsoft will provide partners with more technical details about the next release at a conference in Fargo, N.D., scheduled to run March 1-3.
