The addition of Trellia augments Wyse's cloud client computing portfolio, which now includes mobile security, device, app and expense management for enterprise and consumers. It also gives Wyse partners a broader solution play and enables them to offer mobile management to clients.

"This acquisition provides Wyse partners with an even greater potential array of solutions, especially where mobile device management is required," Wyse said in a FAQ about the Trellia acquisition. "The addition of a cloud-based software solution allows partners to increase their opportunity for incremental business."

With Trellia, Wyse adds new intellectual property and expertise to its existing infrastructure management offerings to speed the deployment of cloud client computing. Wyse said the acquisition will enable it to reduce the costs for companies to manage, support and secure the increasing number of consumer smartphones and tablets that now access virtual and physical IT resources.

"Business users are quickly embracing smartphones and tablets and making them one additional window into corporate applications and content; but their IT counterparts must now find tools to effectively secure and manage them," Giovanni Forte, CEO of Trellia, said in a statement. "The integration of Trellia with a fast-growing global leader like Wyse will enable organizations to cost effectively deploy and embrace new mobile devices in the enterprise with the highest level of security, all integrated into their current cloud client computing strategies."

The Trellia acquisition comes as IDC forecasts that the virtual client computing market will top $3.2 billion by 2014 and more companies will adopt desktop virtualization and desktop-as-a-service (DaaS). Trellia will add new infrastructure management capabilities to Wyse's portfolio to help counter the rapid permeation of smartphone sand tablets and give IT a handle on the increasing consumerization of IT. Wyse said through the Trellia acquisition it will deliver intelligent, scalable and secure cloud-based mobile infrastructure and content management to support a range of users, content types, apps and devices at various locations, whether at home, at work or on the go.

Wyse has been a mobile, cloud and virtualization mainstay and has recently gained strong traction with its Wyse PocketCloud, a mobile cloud app that delivers user and content management as a service to let users access their assets from a secure personal cloud from a range of mobile devices. With Trellia's cloud-based policy, compliance, apps and device management portfolio, Wyse can further fortify the security of its cloud client computing portfolio.

"Combining the IP innovation, skills, resources, and most importantly our joint maniacal focus on customer advocacy of both companies, Wyse will develop and deliver the most advanced mobile cloud solutions through global partnerships, Wyse President and CEO Tarkan Maner said in a statement. "Our goal is to enable enterprises, service providers and telcos to deliver secure infrastructure and content management from the cloud for any user, at home, at work or on-the-go. We are committed to accelerating the fast adoption of cloud client computing, while expanding Wyse's enterprise-class management, cloud and virtualization software portfolio."
