Review: Test Center-Approved Smartphones, Part 1

CRN’s Test Center has chosen several of the past year's sleekest, coolest smartphones, all mounded with megapixels and packed with sensors for motion, proximity, geo-location and orientation.

Apple's 64-bit processor, the A7, is what makes its iPhone 5s something special. Apple is the only company offering a phone with a processor of this caliber. There's also a vastly improved camera and fingerprint reader.

Motorola delivers the best features of high-end smartphones with Moto G, all at a price that's affordable without a long-term contract. The unit has a Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor and contains no UI overlays. The 8-GB model is available unlocked for GSM networks at $179.

Samsung makes the list with both its Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 mini, built with the quad-core Snapdragon 600 and dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, respectively. Samsung's phones are still the only smartphones that can run more than one app on the screen at once.

The HTC One has a 4.7-inch screen with the same Snapdragon 600 processor as the Galaxy S4, but at a slower 1.7GHz rate, compared to the S4's 1.9GHz.
