Former U.S. Army General Calls China 'Insecure and Paranoid' About Cybersecurity

Cyberattacks are a serious threat to U.S. national security and the economy and, according to former U.S. Army Gen. Jack Keane, that threat is only growing.

’Everything we value in this country is now tied to cybersecurity,’ said Keane, who spoke at theXChange Public Sector Conferencein Alexandria, Va.

Keane said he is most concerned about violations from China. ’China is insecure and paranoid about cybersecurity,’ he said.

The former general could not divulge secrets regarding the U.S.' cyberoffensive capabilities but said, ’We have the most formidable capability in the world; no one is close to it.’

Keane said it is time for American companies to be realistic about cybersecurity.

’Any CIO or IT executive who’s sitting back and believes that they run all the red line traps and they’re OK has got to be somewhat naive,’ he said.
