30 Notable IT Executive Moves: April 2013

CRN's monthly roundup of notable IT executive moves continues through April, with more big moves at HP and same major channel chief shifts at companies such as Dell and Sophos.

Ray Lane

The big news in April was another executive shakeup at HP -- Ray Lane stepped down as executive chairman of HP's board and was replaced on an interim basis by fellow board member Ralph Whitworth. Lane will remain on HP's board, but two other members -- John Hammergren and G. Kennedy Thompson -- resigned from the company's board of directors.

Frank Vitagliano

After stepping down from his post as senior vice president of Americas partners at Juniper Networks in March, veteran channel executive Frank Vitagliano landed at Dell. Vitagliano's new role is vice president of channel sales, where he'll oversee Dell's SMB and specialty solution provider partners.

Rod Adkins

IBM made some changes to its executive leadership team, moving Rod Adkins from his post as senior vice president and head of IBM's Systems and Technology Group. Adkins' new role is vice president of corporate strategy. He is a 30-year veteran of IBM, having filled a number of roles in the company's hardware business.

Tom Rosamilia

Taking over Rodkins' position as head of IBM's Systems and Technology Group is Tom Rosamilia, who formerly held the role of senior vice president of corporate strategy (Adkins' new role). Prior to that, Rosamilia was general manager of IBM's enterprise initiatives and general manager of Power and Z Systems in IBM's Systems and Technology Group.

John McCool

John McCool , a 17-year Cisco veteran, is departing the networking giant. McCool was the head of Cisco's Enterprise Networking Sales Architecture and served as senior vice president and chief technology officer of Cisco's Enterprise Segment. Tom Wilburn, former vice president of Cisco's Unified Access Sales, is expected to fill McCool's position.

Jack Domme

Hitachi tapped its first-ever non-Japanese executive corporate officer. Jack Domme, CEO of Hitachi Data Systems, will also retain his role as head of HDS. He'll report to Hitachi's CEO and serve on the company's strategic planning committee. Prior to HDS, Domme held executive roles at Storage Networks and HP.

Raja Koduri

AMD brought back a familiar face in Raja Koduri, who was named the chip maker's new corporate vice president of visual computing. Koduri most recently was the director of graphics architecture at Apple, but prior to that he held a number of roles at AMD and ATI, including chief technology officer of the Graphics Products Group.

Jeff Storey

Level 3 Communications has a new chief executive. The company promoted COO Jeff Storey to president and CEO, replacing James Crowe, who stepped down in March. Storey joined Level 3 in 2008 as COO. Before that, he served as top executive of Leucadia Telecommunications Group and WilTel Communications.

Kendra Krause

Former Fortinet channel chief Kendra Krause has a new home. Krause joined Sophos as vice president of channel sales. Krause formerly served as director of channel sales and vice president of channel sales at Fortinet. Prior to that she served at SonicWall and WatchGuard.

Bill Lucchini

Sophos tapped Bill Lucchini to run the company's new cloud business unit. Lucchini will serve as general manager of Sophos Cloud and will be responsible for driving the company's cloud strategy. Prior to Sophos, he served as COO of OnForce and spent 17 years with Intuit.

Ahmed Rubaie

Fortinet added Ahmed Rubaie to its executive team as the company's chief financial and chief operating officer. He most recently served at executive vice president and CFO of Ariba, which was acquired by SAP last year. Before that, Rubaie held executive positions at manufacturer Avery Dennison and natural resources firm BHP Billiton.

Brad Arkin

Adobe Systems promoted Brad Arkin, formerly senior director of engineering at the software company, to a new security role. Arkin will serve as chief security officer, a new position created by Adobe, and will report to Bryan Lamkin, senior vice president of technology and corporate development.

John Becker

Sourcefire made some major executive changes in April, including the naming of a new CEO in John Becker. Becker most recently spent time as CEO of ScienceLogic, a networking monitoring software company. He replaces former CEO John Burris, who retired last year and died in October after battling colon cancer. Sourcefire founder Martin Roesch served as interim CEO.

Martin Roesch

With Sourcefire hiring John Becker as its new CEO, company founder Martin Roesch steped down as interim CEO and resumed his duties as CTO. Roesch founded Sourcefire in 2001 and has been with the intrusion detection/prevention company ever since. He also serves on the company's board of directors.

David Wu

Riverbed tapped David Wu, a member of the company's founding team from 2003, as its new chief technology officer. Wu has held a number of roles at Riverbed over the years, most recently serving as senior vice president of research and development.

George Symons

Gridstore added former Nexsan and EMC executive George Symons to its executive team as CEO and a member of the board of directors. A veteran of the storage industry, Symons most recently served as chief strategy officer of Nexsan and spent time in executive roles at EMC, Legato and Sun Microsystems.

Chris Rajiah

ViaWest added former Rackspace channel chief Chris Rajiah to its executive team. Rajiah will serve as senior vice president of sales and marketing at the company. He most recently served as vice president of worldwide channel sales and global partner programs at Rackspace. Before that Rajiah held positions at Extreme Networks and 3Com.

Sri Viswanath

Sri Viswanath, VMware's vice president of research and development for mobile computing, left the virtualization company to join Groupon. Viswanath will serve as senior vice president of engineering and operations. Before VMware, he spent time at Glam Media as senior vice president of engineering.

Rick Faulk

Intronis tapped Rick Faulk as its new CEO and a member of its board of directors. Faulk, a 30-year veteran of the technology industry, previously served as president and CEO of Landslide Technologies, a SaaS-based CRM vendor, and general manager of cloud services sales and marketing at J2.

Nathan Fong

Logicalis appointed Nathan Fong as its new chief financial officer, replacing Greg Baker, who left in September. Fong takes over the CFO position for Logicalis as the company relocates its headquarters from Farmington Hills, Mich., to New York. He spent time as CFO and COO at Motricity, a mobile Internet services firm, before joining Logicalis.

Debra Chrapaty

Nirvanix has a new chief executive. Debra Chrapaty, who joined Nirvanix as executive chairwoman last year, has taken over the CEO role at the enterprise cloud storage company. Chrapaty most recently served as CIO of mobile gaming company Zynga. She previously served as corporate vice president at Microsoft and senior vice president of collaboration software at Cisco.

Brian Stein

Puppet Labs added Brian Stein as its vice president of engineering. Stein comes to the automation software maker from Red Hat, where he served as vice president of engineering. Stein will oversee Puppet Labs' development of new automation solutions for cloud and virtualization environments.

Rich Siegel

Array Networks promoted Rich Siegel to vice president of sales and business development. Siegel joined Array in 2011 and previously served as senior director of business development and strategic partnerships, focusing on the networking vendor's channel business. Prior to Array, Siegel held executive roles at Symantec.

King Owyang

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor has a new board member. The company added King Owyang to its board of directors. Owyang is also the CEO and executive director of Computime Group Limited, a Hong Kong technology company. He also spent more than 20 years in various executive roles at Siliconix.

Justin Christian

Mercury Systems added Justin Christian to its executive leadership team. Christian will serve as director of technology for Mercury Intelligence Systems (MIS), a subsidiary focused on big data solutions for the intelligence community. Prior to Mercury Systems, Christian worked at the U.S. National Security Agency for nearly 10 years.

Nick Mehta

Gainsight, formerly known as JBara Software, tapped Nick Mehta as its new CEO. Mehta was most recently chief executive of SaaS email archiving vendor LiveOffice, which was acquired by Symantec last year. He replaces Gainsight founder Jim Eberlin, who was named president of the company and will oversee product strategy and sales.

Quentin Kramer

In a move to add channel sales leadership to the company, Zeacom hired Quentin Kramer as director of business development. Kramer recently worked as Casual Workforce and was also vice president of messaging and applications at solution provider Carousel Industries.

Lorenz Voss

Perseus Telecom appointed Lorenz Voss as executive vice president of global procurement and strategy. Voss, who has more than 10 years of industry experience, joins the networking company after most recently serving at Trading Technologies International, where he was head of global strategic sourcing.

Walter Angerer

Venture capitalist Walter Angerer joined the board of directors at backup and recovery company Quorum. Angerer is currently a partner at Toba Capital and previously served in a number of executive roles at Symantec, including vice president in charge of NetBackup engineering. He also served as senior vice president and general manager at Quest Data Protection.

Brian Foster

Security company Damballa added industry veteran Brian Foster as chief technology officer. Foster has more than 25 years of security product experience, most recently serving as senior vice president of product management at McAfee. He also spent more than two decades at Symantec in a variety of roles.
