Apple Transition To MobileMe Not So Smooth

To atone for the botched transition, Apple is offering MobileMe customers a 30-day service extension free of charge.

"We will be extending subscriptions by 30 days to customers free of charge to express our appreciation for their patience during the transition period," Apple's support notice reads.

New MobileMe members who created accounts before July 15 at 7 p.m. PDT and .Mac members whose accounts were active as of July 9 are eligible for the extension, which Apple says will be applied to customer accounts within a few weeks. Users whose accounts still fall into a free trial period will have an additional 30 days of free trial. For accounts that automatically renew, the 30-day extension will be added at the end of the new subscription.

For users who were eligible but canceled their accounts, Apple has re-activated them for the free 30-day extension. It also applies to purchased upgrades of the MobileMe service.

Apple is also telling users to ignore any renewal notices they receive in the coming weeks. "Over the next few weeks, we will be updating our database to reflect your new renewal end date," Apple said. "During this time, you may receive emails that say your account is up for renewal. Please ignore these emails until your account is extended."
