Smile For The Camera, HP Offers Free Print Photo App For iPhones
With iPrint Photo, pictures are stored on an iPhone or iPod touch. Users can print 4- x 6-inch photos on most HP-networked ink jet printers connected to a local Wi-Fi network. In addition, the application is fully compatible with Apple's Bonjour technology and uses the Multi-Touch interface. The company said that iPrint supports industry standard Wi-Fi environments, including Apple Airport, Linksys, D-Link and Netgear.
To install HP iPrint Photo to devices via a computer, the Apple iTunes application must be installed and in use, and handheld device firmware must be version 2.0 or higher.
The new app is set to debut at the 2009 Macworld Conference & Expo and the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show.
Rob Enderle, president and principal analyst, Enderle Group, said HP is making a smart move in taking advantage of transitioning what it is best known for -- its print product line -- into the wireless apps arena.
"There's a major shift happening in the mobile domain today," said Enderle in a statement included in the HP news release. "Annual camera phone device shipments are exploding on a worldwide basis, and mobile photo printing is quickly growing."
