Symantec’s latest iteration of Norton Ghost hopes to make system backups more user-friendly. Now in version 9, Ghost has been completely redesigned from the ground up to add features that make the product an ideal backup solution. Users now can back up data without exiting or restarting Windows. Incremental backups can save time and space.
Ghost works by taking a snapshot of the hard-drive partition, compressing the information, and then saving the information to another backup device. Users can choose to use external hard drives, optical media or other backup solutions to save all of their data. Restoration after a failure is a simple process of booting from the Ghost CD and copying the image from the backup device back to the PC. What’s more, users now can image backup files as drive letters to retrieve individual files, which adds to the versatility of Ghost’s imaging capabilities.
