IoT Week 2023
While the tech world is entranced by generative AI, the IoT market keeps chugging along, with spending forecasted to increase 10.6 percent this year to $805.7 billion due to organizations realizing that connecting a variety of devices is critical to their operations.
This is according to research firm IDC, which forecasted in June that global IoT spending will surpass $1 trillion in 2026, setting a compound annual growth rate of 10.4 percent over the next four years.
"The last few years have shown that connecting with a digital infrastructure is no longer a luxury, but a necessity," said Carlos M. González, research manager for IoT at IDC, in a statement.
"For organizations to excel in data-driven operations, investing in IoT projects is essential. Connecting devices to data networks to gather insight, expand operations, and increase performance are the hallmarks of executing an IoT ecosystem,” he added.
This points to a continued need for a variety of IoT solutions, from chips and systems that can process data locally, to platforms and other software that can analyze data coming off devices. It also points to growing issues, such as the need to protect connected devices and infrastructure from cyber-attacks.

For IoT Week 2023, CRN is diving into a handful of big topics in the space, including the diversity of edge AI chip solutions, the emerging offerings for satellite IoT connectivity, the state of the IoT platform landscape, big moves made recently by industrial IoT vendors, and how security vendors are responding to industrial IoT threats.
5 Industrial IoT Solutions That Are Solving Big Problems
As part of IoT Week, CRN has rounded up industrial IoT solutions from five significant vendors in the space—Hitachi Vantara, Johnson Controls, Litmus, PTC and Siemens—that are solving big problems for manufacturers, utilities and building operators.
5 Satellite IoT Connectivity Solutions For Remote Areas
As part of IoT Week, CRN rounds up five satellite IoT connectivity solutions that can help organizations keep devices connected in remote areas where there is little to no cellular coverage.
5 Cool Chip Solutions For Edge AI
For the massive number of IoT devices coming online, processing AI workloads at the edge is better than the cloud for providing near-real-time inference and response times in addition to slashing data transport and processing costs and ensuring data privacy and security, Deloitte recently said. CRN rounds up five cool chip solutions that are making edge AI a reality.
