Will AT&T Cause iPhone 3G S Shortages On June 19?
Customers who didn't order the new Apple iPhone 3G S by June 15 may end up having to wait up to an additional two weeks before the hardware is delivered, according to Boy Genius Report. The delay is being caused by the predictably high demand for the new iPhone and AT&T's desire to have product in stores.
A source told Boy Genius Report that AT&T is routing most of the available iPhone 3G S stock to stores in order to fulfill the demand of customers waiting in line.
The tip goes on to point out that anyone who did not preorder an iPhone 3G S before June 12 will likely experience delays of seven to 14 days. Meanwhile, reports surfaced yesterday that some of the preordered iPhone 3G S devices have already begun shipping to customers.
Apple's Web site, however, is not hinting at any problems with purchase or shipment of the iPhone 3G S. The maker of the smartphone says on its Web site that a preorder placed today will be delivered on June 19 and the company is even throwing in free shipping.
The iPhone 3G S is scheduled to launch on June 19th. Customers who have preordered the device will be admitted to AT&T stores starting at 7 a.m. Customers who haven't preordered will be able to get their hands on the latest version of the smartphone starting at 8 a.m. Assuming, of course, AT&T and its stores are carrying stock and don't drop the ball again.
