SAP Buys Analytics Software Maker Pilot
SAP called the purchase, which was completed Feb. 14, a "fill-in" acquisition for its portfolio of analytical applications. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
Pilot was founded in 2002 and has more than 150 customers. The company sells strategy management software to help a number of industries, including financial services, the public sector, and retail. Pilot's flagship product, PilotWorks, helps information workers align goals, initiatives, and metrics around corporate strategies, which are codified in the software.
SAP plans to integrate PilotWorks with its core business applications such as enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, and supply chain management. "Analytic applications that help organizations manage their performance effectively represent a strategic area of investment for SAP as we continue to expand our leadership in this market," Doug Merritt, executive VP and general manager of suite optimization for SAP, said in a statement.
