Google To Open Offices For Google Developer Day

Google Developer Day

The day will feature sessions on technologies such as Google's Web Toolkit, its bundle of AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and Extensible Markup Language) development tools, and its collection of APIs for Google Maps, Earth, GData and other applications.

Scheduled speakers include a number of the company's power players, such as open-source programs manager Chris DiBona, who will present in London; Google Web Toolkit creators Bruce Johnson and Joel Webber, who will appear at the company's headquarters in Mountain View, Calif.; and Apache Software Foundation Chairman Greg Stein, a Google engineering manager, who will speak in Tokyo.

Other cities participating in the May 31 event are Sao Paulo, Brazil; Madrid, Spain; Paris; Hamburg, Germany; Moscow; Beijing; and Sydney, Australia. For developers unable to attend in person, Google is scheduling live streaming Webcasts from its Mountain View office. The company also planning a YouTube channel with videos of sessions from around the world.

Google often holds events targeting developers, a population it relies on to extend its online services and to expand its ever-growing employee pool of development engineers. The company runs an annual programming contest that doubles as a recruiting hunting ground, and it sponsors a Summer of Code program that offers college students stipends to work on open-source projects.
