Oracle To Acquire Service Broker Software Developer

Financial details of the acquisition, which Oracle expects to complete by mid-year, were not disclosed.

Oracle said Convergin's J2EE-based service broker platform complements the Oracle Communications integrated application suite, including Oracle Communications Billing and Revenue Management, Oracle Communications Converged Application Server, and Oracle Communications service fulfillment applications.

Convergin's software is used by communications service providers (CSPs) to manage services for a range of networks and applications such as pre-paid charging. Oracle said CSPs are seeking flexible platforms to deliver value-added services and, according to an Oracle statement, the combination of Convergin with Oracle's Communications software will help CSPs "evolve their service delivery capabilities at a lower total cost of ownership."

The Convergin buy is Oracle's second acquisition this week. On Monday the company announced that it would acquire AmberPoint, a developer of SOA management software. All this comes just two weeks after Oracle completed its $7.4 billion acquisition of Sun Microsystems.
