Google's Search Engine Ranking Drop Accelerating Vs. Yahoo, Microsoft Bing
An analysis of the last four months of reports by comScore, a Reston, Va.--based provider of digital marketing intelligence, shows that Google's share of the overall search market in the U.S. has fallen to 62.6 percent in June compared to 65.1 percent in March.
In its report on June's search engine rankings, comScore reported that Google's market share in the U.S. was 62.6 percent, down 1.1 percent compared to May.
Yahoo, in the meantime, saw its share grow by 0.6 percent to 18.9 percent, while Microsoft Bing's share grew 0.6 percent to 12.7 percent.
The 1.1-percent drop in total search engine ranking by Google is the largest drop in the last four months. Google's share dropped 0.7 percent between April and May to 63.7 percent, according to comScore.
This compares to a drop in search engine ranking of 0.7 percent to 64.4 percent between March and April, and a drop of 0.4 percent to 65.1 percent between February and March, comScore reported.
The drop comes even as Americans continue to increase their use of search engines. comScore estimated that Americans conducted 16.4 billion searches in June, up about 6.5 percent over March, up 17.1 percent over the 14.0 billion searches conducted in June of 2009.
While Google has been steadily loosing market share over the past four months, the situation may not be as serious as it seems. comScore last year reported that Google's share of the U.S. search engine market was 65.0 percent, which is about the same as its share in March of this year.
