Oracle Applications Available Through Amazon's EC2 Cloud Service
The move is particularly significant because the transaction-intensive applications, including Oracle PeopleSoft, Oracle E-Business Suite and J.D. Edwards Enterprise One software, are generally run as on-premise systems.
It also continues Oracle's embrace of cloud computing by Oracle despite comments from CEO Larry Ellison denouncing the hype surrounding cloud computing .
At Oracle OpenWorld in September Oracle executives indicated the company would offer some of its applications through Amazon EC2. Amazon EC2 already supports the Oracle Database, Fusion Middleware and Enterprise Manager software.
Amazon EC2 supports the Oracle applications running as 64-bit instances, what Amazon calls "Amazon Machine Images," running on Oracle Linux and the Oracle VM.
The applications now supported include Oracle PeopleSoft CRM 9.1 PeopleTools and Database, Oracle PeopleSoft ELM 9.1 PeopleTools and Database, Oracle PeopleSoft FSCM 9.1 PeopleTools and Database, and Oracle PeopleSoft PS 9.1 PeopleTools and Database; Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.3 App Tier and DB; and JD Edwards Enterprise One ORCLVMDB, ORCLVMHTML and ORCLVMENT.
Customers can use their existing Oracle licenses at no additional license cost on the Amazon EC2 service or acquire new licenses from Oracle.
