Jaspersoft Offers New Release Of Its Open Source BI Toolset
ISVs and developers who embed Jaspersoft within their applications account for 60 percent of the company's business, said CEO Brian Gentile, in an interview.
"We expect this release to continue and extend our lead in embeddable BI," he said of the new Jaspersoft Business Intelligence Suite 4 software, which is generally available starting this week.
Jaspersoft offers a free "community" edition of its software and a commercial version with added capabilities and support. There have been 12.5 million downloads of the software and there are 185,000 registered community members, according to Gentile. Jaspersoft has 13,000 commercial customers, including 1,000 that subscribe to the full product suite.
The Jaspersoft suite includes the core server, the iReports development environment, ETL (extract, transform and load) tools and other components. Jaspersoft 4 primarily offers updates to the server, with about one-third of the system's architecture re-written to support industry standards and trends, Gentile said.
The new release includes what the company describes as a "consumer Web application-style" user interface that separates the content and presentation layers and allows developers to customize the UI through markup changes in cascading style sheets without changing the underlying functionality. Other new customization and integration capabilities also make it easier for ISVs and developers to build Jaspersoft into their applications.
