Microsoft spokespeople did not immediately return a request for comment on Wahbe's reasons for leaving or the company's plans for replacing him.

Wahbe's online biography has an Editor's Note posted on Jan. 7 that reads: "Robert Wahbe announced plans to leave Microsoft at the end of February 2012."

In his current position, the 15-year Microsoft veteran is responsible for product and business management for the software company's Windows Server, SQL Server, Visual Studio, System Center and Forefront products, according to the biography.

Wahbe joined Microsoft in 1996 when the company acquired Colusa Software, which Wahbe had co-founded, and has served in a number of product development positions. Most recently he led the Connected Systems Division, which includes Microsoft's Windows Application Server, BizTalk Server, .Net Framework technologies, .Net Services within the Azure Services Platform and Microsoft's new modeling system.

In 2000 Wahbe co-founded the team that developed the Windows Communication Foundation, which provides the underlying Web services for Windows Server and Azure Services Platform.
