Products that Kummert spearheaded under Microsoft's Data Platform Group include Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Azure, Microsoft BizTalk Server, Windows Server AppFabric and Windows Azure platform AppFabric, Windows Communication Foundation, and Windows Workflow Foundation.
Microsoft did not say who would replace Kummert in charge of the division.
