Red Hat's Brian Stevens resigned from his position as CTO, according to a company announcement Thursday.

Red Hat had little to say about the sudden departure of one of its top executives and engineers.
In a prepared statement, CEO Jim Whitehurst thanked Stevens for his "years of service and numerous contributions to Red Hat's business."
As a technical leader, Stevens worked on Linux, virtualization, management, security, cloud and JBOSS middleware products. He came to Red Hat in 2001 from Mission Critical Unix, where he was CTO.
Stevens has also served on the board of the American Red Cross, the IEEE Computer Society and on the OpenStack Foundation.
Until his successor is named, the CTO office will be managed by Paul Cormier, Red Hat president of products and technologies.
