Oracle Boosts API Technology Offerings With Apiary Acquisition
Oracle struck a deal to acquire Apiary, a developer of application programming interface development and governance software, in a move that will expand its application development and cloud integration offerings.
Oracle plans to add Apiary's APIFlow technology to its API Integration Cloud service, the Redwood City, Calif.-based company said, providing a comprehensive system that businesses can use to manage application connectivity complexity and API proliferation.
Oracle did not disclose the acquisition price. The deal is subject to customary closing conditions and the vendor did not provide an expected timeline for closing the acquisition. Apiary will continue to operate independently until the acquisition closes.

"Oracle's existing API Integration Cloud already enables companies to secure, consume, monetize and analyze APIs," said Amit Zavery, Oracle senior vice president, Integration Cloud, in an open letter to Oracle customers and partners. "With Apiary, Oracle will also provide customers advanced capabilities to design and govern APIs, allowing companies to manage the entire API life cycle and deliver integrated applications."
APIFlow's capabilities span the API creation life cycle, providing front-end tools for API design, governance, testing and documentation. It supports the API Blueprint and OpenAPI industry standards.
In an online FAQ about the acquisition, Oracle said it "is committed to protecting and enhancing customer investments in Apiary solutions" and after the acquisition is complete "plans to continue investing in Apiary and Oracle's API Integration Cloud."
Oracle also said "the Apiary team is expected to join Oracle." Apiary has offices in San Francisco and Prague in the Czech Republic.
