Teradata Acquires StackIQ To Boost Deployment Capabilities

Teradata on Thursday acquired San Diego-based startup StackIQ in a bid to beef up internal capabilities for deploying its data warehousing systems across complex cloud and on-premises environments.

The pioneering data warehousing vendor sees StackIQ's open source solutions, primarily the company's flagship tool, Stacki, as assets that will simplify provisioning cloud and bare-metal servers to run its analytics platform.

StackIQ, founded in 2006 and bootstrapped until 2011, focuses on developing applications that automate managing complex infrastructure for data storage and advanced analytics.

Teradata, headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, didn't disclose how much it paid for StackIQ, but did say the startup's employees will be kept on board to bolster its engineering talent base.

Teradata will integrate StackIQ's tools to offer partners and enterprise customers an easier route to deploying its technology.

Stacki will help Teradata "manufacture complex computing systems faster, and more reliably, with intelligent software," a Teradata representative told CRN.

The automated capabilities will work across Teradata's two brands of enterprise appliances, IntelliFlex and IntelliBase, and its cloud offering, IntelliCloud.

"StackIQ’s product will help Teradata further excel at automated deployment of complex systems, whether on-premises, in the cloud, or as software-only solutions," the spokesperson said.
