Kyvos Expands Scalability, Data Security Capabilities Of Its Business Analytics Platform

Kyvos Insights has debuted a new release of its big data analytics platform that the company said offers a "quantum" jump in the software's scalability in both the amount of data it can process and the number of users it can support.

The Kyvos 4.0 edition also provides access to data through a wider range of business intelligence tools and provides new security capabilities for protecting data sources.

The new release comes at a time when businesses are wrestling with huge volumes of data stored in Hadoop clusters and data lakes, up to hundreds of terabytes or even petabytes of data, but traditional BI tools can't scale to handle such tasks.

"We are seeing customers bring data into Kyvos at scales and cardinalities that were previously unthinkable with other approaches, while still realizing the instant response times and interactive access that their business users demand," said Ajay Anand, vice president of products at Kyvos Insights, in a statement.

Kyvos is a next-generation OLAP (online analytical processing) system that works with data stored in Hadoop, Spark and cloud systems. Analysts use the software to create and store multidimensional data cubes and construct a "BI consumption layer" that makes it possible to analyze the data using visualization tools like Tableau and Qlik.

The 4.0 release includes a new active-active load balancing architecture that makes it possible to scale the system to thousands of users. A new capability to conduct exact, distinct counts on cardinality in the billions makes it possible to handle data sets with hundreds of billions of rows and cubes larger than 20 terabytes. And the new edition supports more elastic deployments of query servers for times of increased usage.

The new release offers advanced role-based security for managing multiple groups of users and provides row- and column-level security for fine-grained access control. Security is also enhanced through integration with Hortonworks Apache Ranger, Cloudera Apache Sentry and enterprise single sign-on tools such as SiteMinder and Okta.

"With Kyvos 4.0, we have added more enterprise-grade capabilities to scale out deployments to thousands of users while providing fine-grained access control for uncompromised security," Anand said.

The 4.0 edition supports SQL and MDX APIs, expanding the range of business intelligence tools that work with the Kyvos platform to access Hadoop data including Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Excel, Qlik, MicroStrategy, IBM Cognos and SAP Business Objects.
