NexusTek CEO: ‘GenAI Isn’t Just A Concept, It’s In Production Solving Real Problems’

‘We’re not just advising clients to use GenAI, we’re using it ourselves,’ says NexusTek CEO Hamilton Yu. ‘That gives us credibility. GenAI isn’t just a concept, it’s in production solving real problems.’

NexusTek is betting big on GenAI as a cornerstone of its long-term growth strategy, according to CEO Hamilton Yu.

“We’re helping clients navigate the complexity of adopting GenAI starting with business workshops, creating acceptable use policies, launching pilot projects and then scaling them,” Yu told CRN. “We even launched a secure GenAI platform to help companies use AI without compromising their data.”

He added that GenAI is not just a value-added service but instead becoming a fundamental component of modern managed service offerings.

The Greenwood Village, Colorado-based company, named on CRN’s 2025 Solution Provider 500 list, has already built a dedicated GenAI practice both to streamline internal operations and to guide clients through AI adoption.

“We’re not just advising clients to use GenAI, we’re using it ourselves,” he said. “That gives us credibility. GenAI isn’t just a concept, it’s in production solving real problems.”

He also sees GenAI not only as a new revenue stream but as a competitive differentiator. And as demand grows and the technology matures, NexusTek aims to lead the charge by continuously evolving its AI-powered managed services portfolio.

CRN spoke further to Yu about GenAI, competition and what makes NexusTek stand out from others.

What do you see as the biggest opportunity for growth for NexusTek over the next five to 10 years?

The biggest opportunity lies in the increasing demand for companies to offload their IT operations and security infrastructure. More organizations are choosing to specialize in their core business and outsource everything else including IT management, SOC operations and even their own staff. We’re seeing companies ask us to take over their internal employees and integrate them into our team. And the trend is extending to areas like MDR (managed detection and response) as well. Beyond traditional MSP services, there’s exciting growth in GenAI, not only as a service offering but also as a new layer of managed services. As these AI models require constant tuning and management, they open up a long-term service opportunity that we’ve already started to tap into with our dedicated GenAI practice.

So how is NexusTek integrating GenAI into its services?

We’ve embraced GenAI both internally and externally. Internally, for example, we built a GenAI tool that leverages 30 years of data to identify root causes of IT outages. So far it’s reduced our diagnostic time by 85 percent. Externally, we’re helping clients navigate the complexity of adopting GenAI starting with business workshops, creating acceptable use policies, launching pilot projects and then scaling them. We even launched a secure GenAI platform to help companies use AI without compromising their data.

As CEO, how do you balance long-term strategy with day-to-day operations?

It’s always a juggling act. You’ve got to keep the business efficient and profitable while also investing in the future. My job is to make sure we’re taking a portion of today’s profits and putting them back into innovation. If you’re not reinvesting you become a traditional MSP, stagnant and outdated. The modern MSP is always evolving and that requires a commitment to continuous learning and development.

What’s your biggest challenge right now as a CEO?

The pace of technological change. It’s not just about staying ahead, it’s about choosing the right tools and partners in a world where new AI and cloud technologies become obsolete within months. We’re constantly evaluating vendors and technologies to make sure we don’t fall behind. One wrong call and you’re suddenly locked into a platform that’s no longer relevant.

What do you want more of from your vendors?

I draw a clear line between vendors and partners. Vendors deliver a product, partners help us innovate. The best partners work with us on roadmaps, co-develop capabilities and show flexibility. They understand our needs and build solutions that make us more competitive. The ones investing in GenAI and adapting quickly are the ones we want to work with long-term.

So how are you differentiating NexusTek in the market?

We’re not just advising clients to use GenAI, we’re using it ourselves. That gives us credibility. GenAI isn’t just a concept, it’s in production solving real problems. That’s a major differentiator. And as competitors catch up, we’ll continue to innovate and stay ahead.

What’s the biggest challenge your clients face today?

Getting started with GenAI is the top challenge. Most clients don’t know where to begin, so we guide them from initial workshops to policy development, pilots and eventually full deployment. Security is the second big issue, especially as AI-driven attacks increase. Our Secure AI Platform and MDR services address those concerns by providing secure environments and rapid threat detection.

What are your thoughts on the recent wave of M&A in the industry?

M&A is inevitable, everyone is up for acquisition eventually. You can’t assume that today’s vendor will look the same two years from now. The VMware/Broadcom situation was a wake-up call. Companies saw 4x to 14x price increases and are now scrambling to migrate before their renewal windows close. You have to be prepared for that kind of disruption.

What do you want to see more of in the channel?

More consistency across providers. We work closely with cloud hyperscalers like Azure, Google and AWS but each has a different approach, especially with GenAI. Aligning those strategies more closely would benefit the entire channel. That said, they’ve all been solid partners and we expect that collaboration to grow.

What exciting initiatives are coming up at NexusTek the rest of this year?

We’re doubling down on GenAI, continuing to expand our practice and refine our Secure AI Platform. We're also making strategic hires and investments to bolster our security services, especially around MDR and disaster recovery. This is a transformative year and we’re positioning NexusTek to be a trusted leader in AI-powered managed services.
