Siemens Touts New HiPath Apps

The applications, part of Siemens' HiPath MobileOffice suite, address the challenges of keeping mobile employees productive and accessible, said Kathy Heilmann, group marketing manager of applications at Siemens Enterprise Networks, based here.

"The new applications allow our partners to offer a comprehensive solution," Heilmann said, adding that the software gives partners a means to address mobile users instead of just employees within the company's walls.

>> The new apps aim to make mobile users more accessible and productive.

One of the new apps, HiPath CorporateConnect, provides one-number dialing and unified messaging for mobile phones or voice-enabled PDAs and laptops. Once mobile users are logged into the corporate network, they can access the same 30-plus telephony features they would be able to access at their desk, including abbreviated dialing, conferencing and transferring, said Becky Davis, Siemens Enterprise Networks' director of product management for HiPath applications.

Another new app, HiPath ComResponse, lets users create an informational Web page that an interactive voice response system reads to callers via the user's voice-mail message. Callers can access the information they need even if the user isn't available, Davis said. Users also can configure self-service options that allow callers to schedule appointments in the user's calendar or have documents e-mailed or faxed to them, she said.

For many customers, the implementation of communications software is the next logical step in mobile computing, according to Jay Ives, vice president of sales at Dynamic Computer Solutions of Topeka, a Topeka, Kan.-based solution provider.

"One, two or three years ago is when everybody began acquiring these mobile devices. Now customers are looking for ways for them to be interconnected," Ives said. "The times of spending the whole day in front of your PC with your phone right there are over."

CorporateConnect costs $400 per user. ComResponse starts at $4,100 for a four-channel system that supports 50 to 100 users. Both are scheduled to ship at the end of October.
