Giuliani: Technology Advances Will Keep Us Safe
"The genius of the American economic system will invent technology that makes all that happen faster," said Giuliani, referring to stepped-up security searches in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Giuliani said he is confident that there will be inventions that eliminate many of the delays and inconveniences Americans are now experiencing at airports and at public events. In the process, he said, some entrepreneurs are going to become very successful.
The former mayor admitted to being a little annoyed when the van he was riding in to this year's Super Bowl was searched. But when he saw former San Francisco 49er quarterback Joe Montana politely enduring a security pat-down, Giuliani realized: "OK, I get it ... we have to put up with this."
Giuliani said that despite appearances, America is safer today than it was before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks because "today we are looking at reality and not some romanticized reality."
"People hate us and want to kill us" because of our political, religious and economic freedoms, said Giuliani. "I mean this in the most nonbelligerent way possible ... we are right and they are wrong," he said.
