HP Names 150 HP And Compaq Managers To Combined Management Team
Hewlett-Packard Compaq Computer
The new management team is subject to final closure of the merger. The complete list of managers appears at the end of this article.
The named managers include those who will directly report to the heads of HP's four new businesses. Included in the mix is a heavy sprinkling of veterans who joined Compaq in 1998 as a result of its acquisition of Digital Equipment Corp.
HP had previously named the heads of the combined company's four planned business groups, including Peter Blackmore, executive vice president, HP Enterprise Systems Group; Ann Livermore, executive vice president, HP Services; Duane Zitzner, executive vice president, HP Personal Systems Group; and Vyomesh Joshi, executive vice president, HP Imaging and Printing Group.
Blackmore comes from Compaq, where he serves as executive vice president of sales and services. He is responsible for Compaq's worldwide field organization, Compaq Global Alliances, the Quality and Customer Satisfaction organization, and Compaq Global Services, as well as Compaq's partnerships with distribution partners. He joined Compaq in 1991.
As expected, Compaq managers will head the combined company's storage and Intel-based service businesses, while HP managers will head Unix products and the software businesses.
Reporting to Blackmore is Howard Elias, a Digital veteran, who will head the combined company's network storage solutions. While Elias is currently senior vice president and general manager of Compaq's Business Critical Server Group, until 1998 he was vice president and general manager of the Enterprise Storage Group. Before that, Elias was vice president of Digital's Windows NT Systems Business Unit.
Nora Denzel, currently vice president and general manager of HP's Network Storage Solutions Organization, will take over responsibilities for the combined company's software business. She joined HP in August 2000 after a stint as senior vice president of product operations at storage management software vendor Legato Systems, where she managed that company's engineering, product management and technical support.
Mary McDowell, currently senior vice president and general manager of Compaq's Industry Standard Server Group, will have responsibility for the new HP's industry-standard servers as well.
Managing the new HP's business critical servers will be Scott Stallard, currently vice president and general manager of HP's Business Systems and Technology Organization.
Irv Rothman, president and chief executive officer of Compaq Financial Services, will run financial services for the new Enterprise Systems Group.
Regional manager for the Americas for the Enterprise Systems Group will be Jim Milton. Milton is currently senior vice president and general manager for Compaq in North America, where he is responsible for sales and marketing, distribution and services. He also came to Compaq in 1998 with the acquisition of Digital, where he was the West region vice president within the U.S. Enterprise Sales organization.
Livermore, the current president of HP Services who at one time was a leading candidate for the company's CEO position, will run the combined HP Services Group.
Heading services in the Americas will be Jack Novia, currently vice president of enterprise sales for Compaq's Northeast region. Rene Schuster, chief executive for Compaq U.K. and Ireland, will manage consulting and integration under Livermore.
Also reporting to Livermore will be Airton Gimenes, currently vice president of sales for HP's Business Customer Organization, who will handle sales, and Uli Holdenried, vice president and general manager of HP operations, who will run managed services.
HP's Personal Systems Group will be headed by Zitzner, who is currently president of HP's computing systems. His current responsibilities include HP Netservers, Unix servers, storage, server appliances and software products such as HP OpenView. Much of his team, however, will come from Compaq.
The business PC side under Zitzner will be handled by Jeri Callaway, currently vice president and general manager of Compaq's Access Business Group. Alex Gruzen, Compaq's vice president and general manager of mobile computing, will head the new HP's notebook business.
Mike Larson, senior vice president and general manager for Compaq's worldwide consumer group, will be responsible for the Personal Systems Group for the new HP's Americas operations.
Heading emerging technology under Zitzner will be Iain Morris, president of HP's Embedded and Personal Systems (EPS) Organization, which includes such areas as HP's personal digital assistant and handheld products, wireless and Internet services, personal storage appliances, embedded software, commercial and consumer personal computers, and calculators.
Management for the new HP's Imaging and Printing Group under Joshi is, as expected, made up mainly of current HP personnel. They include Pradeep Jotwani, currently president and general manager of HP's Consumer Business Organization, who will now manage supplies. Larry Lesley, vice president and general manager for HP's Personal Printing Organization, will manage the new company's personal printing business. George Mulhern, vice president of HP's Connectivity Organization, will manage shared printing and imaging. And Mary Peery, vice president and general manager for HP's Digital Imaging Organization, will handle digital imaging and publishing.
Michael Winkler, slated to take his place as executive vice president for the new HP Worldwide Operations business, comes from Compaq, where he currently serves as executive vice president for global business units, including industry standard servers, enterprise storage, business critical solutions and access business. He also is responsible for Compaq's Global Solutions Group, integrated marketing communications and supply chain operations.
Heading global alliances under Winkler will be Bill Russell, who is currently vice president and general manager of HP's Software Solutions Organization.
On the corporate side, Shane V. Robison, currently senior vice president of technology and CTO at Compaq, will become senior vice president and CTO for HP's Office of Corporate Strategy and Technology.
