Software AG Upgrades Design Tools For Ajax Applications

Application Designer includes a design-time and run-time environment that uses Ajax, or asynchronous JavaScript and XML, to build Web-browser interfaces as part of a service-oriented architecture. An SOA is a form of distributed computing that uses Web services standards and protocols in linking internal systems and connecting them to computer systems of suppliers and partners.

The product accelerates and simplifies the design and deployment of browser-based user interfacese that offer desktop-like capabilities, officials with the San Diego-based company said. Applications designed and tested with Designer can be deployed on a variety of Java application servers, including Tomcat, JBoss, IBM Websphere, BEA Weblogic, and others.

New features in Version 2.1 include generic Web services support, WYSIWYG layout capabilities and a HTML editor/word processor through Software AG's recent alliance with Pintexx.

Application Designer V 2.1 is shipping now. Pricing for the designer and run-time environment starts at just under $1,200.
