Dell Hires New Services Chief

Steve Schuckenbrock, formerly co-COO at systems integrator EDS, is slated to take over the new post of senior vice president of global services at Dell on Jan. 8. He will report to Dell CEO Kevin Rollins and join Dell's Global Executive Management Committee.

In addition to his post at EDS, Schuckenbrock has held various positions at Pepsi, where he was global CIO for Frito Lay, as well as at IBM.

Dell has been working to overcome customer service problems, declining sales growth and a profit margin that has been under pressure from rivals such as HP and Lenovo, which have been gaining efficiency and becoming more price-competitive.

In Dell's services business, Schuckenbrock takes the helm of a unit that has won lucrative deals in recent years, including customers such as Boeing, and that has been on an annual run rate of about $6 billion in revenue. However, the Round Rock, Texas-based company remains short of Dell Chairman Michael Dell's pronouncement that Dell would eventually build a $10 billion global services business.
