The Clearwater, Fla.-based distributor will offer EMC Captiva QuickScan Pro, InputAccel Express and EMC Documentum ApplicationExtender document capture and management software products and target its SMB-oriented, SMB Access and TechSelect reseller customers.

The move enhances Tech Data's document imaging software portfolio to compliment its more extensive hardware offerings, according to Jennifer Burke, Tech Data's director, peripherals product marketing. "We're always looking at how to bring on new partners, especially on the ISV side, to continue to enhance line card and offerings," she said.

Tech Data's document imaging SBU also carries products from software vendors DocuLex, Questys, IDatix and Kofax.

For Bob Molinari, president of solution provider 1st Run Computer Services, New York, said he thinks EMC's move to distribution will be good for resellers looking to sell the company's document imaging products.

"If you're working with a distributor for any length of time there are advantages to buying through distribution. The more products you can buy through distribution the more value and benefit we derive, which all equate to a high profit margin. At least it should," he said.

His company resells the Documentum ApplicationExtender, but could not previously buy it through Tech Data. 1st Run Computer Services does buy Kofax software from Tech Data's document imaging SBU, which he thinks gives the distributor an edge in the market.

"We've been doing this quite a long time, so we're experts at imaging, data capture, but it's still is an advantage to us to deal with people who know what we're talking about. Even though we don't rely on them necessarily for information as other people may, it's nice to talk with someone who understands what you're talking about," he said.
