PalmOne CEO To Step Down

After a number of quarters of losing money, the company has been slightly profitable of late. Still, analysts say the company faces significant challenges as devices from other vendors based on non-PalmSource platforms such as Microsoft's Windows Mobile and the Symbian OS, are gaining momentum.

He will be replaced on an interim basis by industry veteran Ed Colligan, who is palmOne's president and a former executive of Handspring, which palmOne acquired. No specific reasons were given for Bradley's abrupt resignation.

"I've accomplished what I set out to do," Bradley said in a statement. "The company is on a growth path, our product portfolio is exciting and competitive, and I have great confidence in the company's current and future prospects. I feel the time is right for me to move on to another challenge."

Bradley is credited with overseeing the release of palmOne's smartphone, which is generally regarded to be the company's most successful product. Bradley, who became president of what was to become palmOne in October 2003, was promoted to CEO in October 2003. He will officially leave the company on February 25.
