ScanSource Names Longtime Exec President Of Business Tying Together Hardware, POS Portal
‘We’re all about enabling our partners. Our VARs are trying to keep up with changes ahead of customers. We want to make sure they have all the services and offerings they need to be successful,’ says Tony Sorrentino, newly named president of ScanSource’s North America business.
ScanSource is looking to bring its traditional IT hardware distribution partners and its POS Portal mobile device and point-of-sales distribution partners closer together with the appointment of Tony Sorrentino (pictured) as president of its North America business.
Sorrentino, a 22-year ScanSource veteran who until last week served as president of the distributor’s North American specialty segment, is stepping into the newly created role of president of all of its North American business as a way to bring the two businesses closer and build new services including Hardware as a Service, said John Eldh, chief revenue officer of the Greenville, S.C.-based company.
“We’ve pulled all the hardware businesses together,” Eldh told CRN. “If you go back to 2015, we’ve been on a journey to identify end-user buying requirements. Bringing all the hardware together in North America lets us wrap more services around the hardware and deliver them to our partner ecosystem.”

ScanSource acquired POS Portal in June 2017.
With the move, ScanSource is signaling that it has finished moving all of its hardware into a single organization, Eldh said.
“We’re marrying all our capabilities to put us in a stronger position with new value-added services to meet customer requirements,” he said.
Sorrentino told CRN that his organization is now handling sales and marketing for both its hardware and POS Portal business.
“POS Portal offers specialized support for businesses in the credit card provisioning, banking and retail industry,” he said. “We want to bring those offerings to our traditional reseller partners while looking at other offerings to help partners be more profitable. We’re all about enabling our partners. Our VARs are trying to keep up with changes ahead of customers. We want to make sure they have all the services and offerings they need to be successful.”
ScanSource currently offers services such as hardware and software configuration, key injection to secure payment devices, wireless activation and bundling of solutions, Eldh said.
“We will build on that in areas such as Hardware as a Service, life-cycle management, and provisioning,” he said.
