Channel Beat: Dimension Data Buys Nexus

In this week's top stories, Dimension Data acquired $471 million solution provider Nexus, expanding its presence in the U.S. market by 40 percent.

Dimension Data hopes the acquisition will deepen the skills and services needed to support clients, particularly on the West Coast. Nexus has 19 offices in the West, Southwest and Southeast regions, where Dimension Data is looking to grow. Dimension Data has not disclosed the amount it paid for Nexus.

Apple CEO Tim Cook dropped hints this week about "great things" to come from the company, answering to criticism it has hit an innovation plateau. Apple posted better-than-expected second-quarter numbers, selling 44 million new iPhones in the quarter, compared to 37.4 million in last year's second quarter. Cook said Apple feels comfortable in expanding what it is working on, but the focus remains on iPad.

Juniper Networks beat analyst expectations in its first financial quarter, with revenue up 10 percent from the same period last year. Net income was up 21 percent. The results come as the company continues a broad cost-cutting and restructuring initiative, with plans to lay off 6 percent of its global work force.
