CRN Test Center: Dell Latitude Stuns With Facial Recognition Technology

If you’re in the market for a new laptop, look no further than the business-friendly Latitude 5480 by Dell. This laptop is quick and sleek, sporting a 15-inch display, and weighing in at only 4.2 pounds. When compared to the new 15-inch MacBook Pro, we found that there were more benefits for the money on Dell’s model.

One of the best features is the high-speed processor. It is a super quick quad-core chip from Intel’s seventh-generation line. The laptop is a standout when it comes to running applications or searching the web efficiently. The battery life is top-notch and only drained about a quarter of the way during an afternoon of use here at the CRN Test Center.

Professionals will enjoy the large selection of ports on this laptop, which include USB-C, as well as a numerical keyboard.

But, the coolest feature of all is the infrared camera for facial recognition, which you can use easily to sign into the computer with Windows Hello. The feature worked great from the get-go, and we found that it was much faster than using a passcode or PIN.

One downside, though, is the trackpad, which was not as responsive as we would have liked. Using the two-finger scrolling was difficult because of the lag time.

All in all, you can get a lot for your money with this machine. The model we tested has 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. With a 2.9GHz processor, we can’t believe it is selling for less than $2,000.
