Dell Targets Health-Care Customers With Streak Smartphone
The Round Rock, Tex.-based vendor wants to attract more health-care customers because 64 percent of physicians use smart phone technology and are adopting smartphones more rapidly than any other segment of health-care IT, according to Dell.
“With the Streak integrated into our solution portfolio, we are making electronic patient information accessible to physicians and clinicians in a form factor that is easy for them to use," said Jamie Coffin, vice president of Dell Healthcare and Life Sciences, in a statement. "In the future, we will extend the accessibility of medical information throughout the healthcare ecosystem with the introduction of additional mobility offerings."
Dell's existing health-care solutions provide access to digitized patient information and now would be available virtually anywhere within the EMR infrastructure, according to Dell. For example, the Streak integrates into Dell's EMR bundle and is HIPAA compliant because patient information still resides in a hosting center or data center, not on the device, the company said.
The Streak weighs just 220 grams and can easily fit into a medial lab coat, according to Dell. Also, the open Android platform should make it easier to integrate into existing systems and applications, according to Dell.
"The device can become an extension of the hospital’s information sharing platform, not another siloed technology that adds cost and complexity for hospitals that already struggle with inter and intra-operability," according to Dell in the statement.
