Dynatrace To Buy Runecast To Boost AI-Powered Cloud Security

Cloud security specialist Dynatrace plans to buy AI-powered security and compliance specialist Runecast. Here are Dynatrace’s plans for the company.

Dynatrace plans to acquire AI security specialist Runecast to enable customers to perform threat detection and incident response as well as to proactively address misconfigurations and compliance violations in hybrid and multi-cloud ecosystems.

London-based Runecast is a provider of AI-powered security and compliance offerings. Dynatrace said it will embed Runecast into its own unified observability and security platform to expand Dynatrace’s cloud-native application security protection capabilities.

Dynatrace CTO Bernd Greifeneder said his company enables customers to not only identify and analyze vulnerabilities and threats automatically, but also to measure and improve risk exposure and compliance status and perform advanced security analytics and automation.

“Runecast’s technology will enhance this advantage, elevating our runtime vulnerability analytics and protection and helping our customers to keep their clouds audit-ready all the time,” said Greifeneder in a statement.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition is expected to close in Dynatrace’s fourth fiscal quarter of 2024, which ends on March 31.

Dynatrace’s Plans For Runecast

Dynatrace is a Waltham, Mass.-based cloud observability and security application specialist. The company’s platform combines broad observability and continuous runtime application security with advanced AI to provide answers and intelligent automation from data at scale.

Adding Runecast to Dynatrace’s platform aims to extend Dynatrace’s contextual security protection and analytics with Runecast security posture management. This will help customers address the risks of misconfigurations and compliance violations in hybrid and multi-cloud ecosystems proactively based on AI-driven, automated, real-time vulnerability assessments.

The deal also will allow customers to perform threat detection and incident response with full context detailing their security vulnerabilities, affected applications, risk levels and attack vectors.

Runecast CEO Stanimir Markov said his company is excited to join Dynatrace “to deliver a comprehensive Cloud-Native Application Protection Platform that addresses two critical questions for our customers: ‘How secure are we?’ and ‘How compliant are we?’”

“We aim to provide organizations with real-time, automated and actionable insights for security compliance, vulnerability assessment and configuration management of their hybrid and multi-cloud environments,” Markov said in a statement.

Dynatrace Acquired Rookout In 2023

Prior to Runecast, Dynatrace’s last acquisition came in late 2023 with the purchase of debugging product provider Rookout.

Adding Rookout’s capabilities to Dynatrace’s platform aimed to give developers more code-level observability into production environments.

The AI and automation capabilities in the Dynatrace platform promised to speed up debugging with Rookout, eliminating some manual tasks.
