Paul McCartney Library Gets Wings In HP Cloud

It appears Sir Paul McCartney decided to follow the cloud instead of the Sun.

HP said Wednesday that it is breathing new life into McCartney's archives as the high-tech powerhouse is teaming up with McCartney's company, McCartney Productions Limited (MPL), to digitize and deliver McCartney's library via a private cloud.

Calling McCartney's "one of the most comprehensive libraries of any artist," HP said it will digitize McCartney's vast library of images, artwork, paintings, film and videos, along with the masters of many of "the cute one's" most popular songs from his days as with The Beatles, Wings and his solo career.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based HP said it will work closely with MPL to digitize the material and design a state-of-the-art content management system. From there, McCartney's library will be delivered through a private cloud and portions of it will be made available here, there and everywhere to fans via a Web-based system, giving them a small glimpse into a day in the life of Sir Paul.

"I've always been interested in creative ideas and new ways of reaching people, so this is a really exciting initiative for me," McCartney said in a statement. "I hope it will allow people who might be interested to access parts of our archives they might otherwise not be able to. I'm looking forward to working with HP on this project."

The deal with The Walrus marks the first time HP has collaborated with an artist in this fashion, leveraging cloud computing and digitized content and offering access to it.
