the most well-funded cloud vendors

The cloud content management player this week signed on former EMC Chief Marketing Officer Whitney Tidmarsh Bouck as its enterprise general manager. Box.net said with Bauck on board it will embark on the next stage of its enterprise growth across sales, marketing and deployment.

"Box has a powerful vision for the future of cloud content management, and the recent funding and explosive revenue growth have positioned Box to win the market," Bouck said in a statement. "I'm incredibly excited to be joining a company that is redefining how individuals and businesses share and collaborate, and I look forward to helping Box bring its solution to the world's largest enterprises."

Tidmarsh Bouck served as CMO of EMC's Information Intelligencer Group where she led worldwide marketing strategy for EMC's enterprise content management, information governance, enterprise capture and customer communications product lines, including the Documentum product.

Before joining EMC as part of the Documentum acquisition, Bouck worked for Documentum for eight years. She boasts more than two decades in the enterprise software space and has been tapped to drive Box.net's marketing, sales and deployment strategies to boost Box.net's profile in the Fortune 1000, the company said.

"We're focused on building a world class team that will redefine how enterprise software is designed and delivered," Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO of Box.net, said in a statement. "Whitney's impressive experience and industry knowledge will be critical to accelerating Box's adoption in the enterprise, as we help organizations realize the benefits of intuitive, flexible and secure content management and collaboration in the cloud."

Bouck is one of more than 40 new personnel Box.net brought on in the first quarter as it sharpens its enterprise cloud claws. Box.net also hired Vice President of Sales Lesley Young, who previously led enterprise sales efforts at Huddle, Oracle and MySQL; and former Oracle Director of Analyst Relations Joely Urton, who joined Box to drive the company's analyst relations strategy. Box.net also snagged key hires from leading consumer and enterprise companies like Google, Facebook, Yahoo! and Microsoft. The additions bring the company's headcount to 157.

Along with a hiring boom, Box.net hit several key milestones in the first quarter, a quarter the company called "epic."

According to Box.net, it had a record first quarter in which enterprise revenue more than tripled compared over the first quarter in 2010. The company saw deal size increase 25 percent from the fourth quarter of 2010 to the first quarter of 2011. Box.net also closed a $48 million funding round in February, with Meritech Capital Partners leading the Series D funding charge.

Additionally, more than 500,000 new users joined the Box.net platform, pushing its total user base to nearly 6 million since it was founded in 2005.

This year also marked Box.net's unveiling of a new version of its cloud content management offering, which added new collaboration and real-time capabilities and an improved interface. Box.net also updated its iPad and iPhone apps and enhanced its enterprise option with the launch of ECM Cloud Connect, which helps organizations like to more than 40 on-premise ECM systems.
