Microsoft Sets Date To Unveil Office 365 Cloud App Suite
Microsoft put out word Friday that it has scheduled a press event in New York for June 28 to "hear the latest about Office 365," according to an invitation to the press event. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is slated to be the keynote speaker.
Office 365 is Microsoft's competitive answer to Google Apps and other cloud-based software that competes with Microsoft's Office cash cow. The Office 365 software has been in public beta since mid-April.
But Microsoft has not disclosed just when the cloud application suite will be generally available, other than to say it will be out sometime this year.
Microsoft Office 365 includes on-demand versions of Microsoft Office, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online and Lync Online. The Office component includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint, which Microsoft has offered in the cloud for some time through its Office Live and Skydrive online products. Office 365 is a business-ready extension of Office Live.
