Lockheed Exec Takes Seat On 8x8's Board
Cloud computing provider 8x8 appointed a VAR500 executive to its board of directors. Vikram "Vic" Verma also was appointed to 8x8's Audit and Compensation committees as an independent director.
Currently, Verma is president of Strategic Venture Development at Lockheed Martin. Before that, he was CEO of Savi Technology, a leader in RFID-based tracking and security solutions and a pioneer in managed service offerings for government and commercial logistics applications. Lockheed bought Savi in 2006.
Verma has a long career in IT, beginning in 1990 at Savi as a design engineer. Within four years, he was named COO. In 1995, Verma played an integral role in the acquisition of Savi by Texas Instruments. Verma stayed with Savi, becoming president and CEO in 1997 and was one of the leads in the management buyout of Savi from Raytheon in May 1999. Seven years later, he led the purchase of the company by Lockheed.
"[Verma's] experience leading high-technology companies through rapid worldwide growth within new and evolving markets is especially valuable to 8x8 as we position for the opportunities ahead," Bryan Martin, chairman and CEO of 8x8, said in a statement.
