Google Sets Up Partner Program For Cloud Services
Google will make available to partners technology resources such as Compute Engine to configure and manage applications running on Google’s infrastructure; Google BigQuery to import and analyze data; and Google Cloud Storage for archiving, backup and recovery, and primary storage solutions.
The platform also includes service partners offering consulting and implementation of Google Cloud products such as Google App Engine, Mobile Apps, and Social Apps.
“In the last decade, we’ve invested in building an infrastructure that can serve 4 billion hours of video every month, support 425 million Gmail users and store 100 petabytes of web index, and it’s growing every day,” Eric Morse, head of sales and business development, Google Cloud Platform, wrote in a blog Tuesday. “We’ve taken this technology and extended it via Google Cloud Platform so that you can benefit from the same infrastructure that powers Google's applications.”

The Cloud Platform Partner Program is Google’s attempt to expand its cloud services while creating a larger partner ecosystem.
The company already has a program for partners who sell Google products such as Google Apps, Google Docs and Chromebooks.
And on June 28, at its I/O developer conference in San Francisco, Google unveiled its cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service, called Compute Engine, that leverages the company’s worldwide data centers and infrastructure to help businesses migrate their IT resources to the cloud.
One new Google Cloud Platform Partner program member said Tuesday that new services will make it much easier for cloud services providers to bring more businesses to the cloud.
David Cope, chief marketing officer of CliQr Technologies, a Mountain View, Calif.-based cloud application management company, said Google Compute Engine’s ability to easily run enterprise apps in private or public clouds through Google’s cloud infrastructure will be an attractive proposition for business.
“We’ve had a lot of businesses hearing about cloud computing and sitting on the sidelines and saying, ‘I don’t want to be locked out of the cloud,” Cope said. “For us as a manager of cloud platforms, this program will allow us to move them into the cloud with Google.”
