Virtustream's CEO And President Are Stepping Down, Rory Read To Take Leadership Role

Longtime Virtustream leaders Rodney Rogers and Kevin Reid are set to step down after founding the enterprise cloud powerhouse nearly a decade ago.

In a statement to CRN, Virtusteam confirmed that Rogers, chairman and CEO, and Reid, president and CTO, will no longer be with the company effective May 8. The company told CRN via email that the leaders have "decided the time is right to step down."

"Today marks my final day as Virtustream CEO. I’ll be transitioning to a new leader over the next 90 days. It’s been a magical 10-[year] run that I’m so thankful for. We're in a great place today [at Dell Technologies] and the future is bright. Much [love] to our customers, partners and team [members]," said Rogers in a Tweet Monday.

Rory Read will assume leadership of the company as Virtustream's new president, according to the vendor. Read could not be reached for comment by press time.

Virtusteam said Howard Elias, president of Dell Services, has been working with Rogers and Reid on a succession and transition plan for "quite some time." Read will be joining Elias' leadership team and will retain his role as Dell chief operating executive and member of Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell's executive leadership team.

Virtusteam has hired former vice president of Oracle Cloud, Deepak Patil, to replace Reid as the company's CTO, who will now report to Read. Prior to Oracle, Patil was one of the founding members of Microsoft Azure and led the growth of the Azure business as a general manager of Azure Infrastructure, according to the company.

"We thank Rodney and Kevin for their leadership and welcome Rory and Deepak to Virtustream," said Virtusteam in the statement to CRN.

Rogers and Reid founded Virtustream in 2009, and it was acquired by EMC in 2015. Virtustream became part of Dell Technologies after its $67 billion acquisition of EMC in 2016.
