Lenovo, which is stepping up its TruScale consumption-based as-a-service charge, has hired Hewlett Packard Enterprise Senior Director of U.S. GreenLake Sales Eric Gieszl as North American Solution and Sales Leader for its Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG).

CRN reached out to Lenovo and HPE but had not heard back at press time.

Gieszl, who has spent 10 years at HPE in two separate stints, said in a LinkedIn post that his new Lenovo responsibilities include leading the TruScale team in North America along with the ISG services sales organization and the inside sales team.

“I look forward to working with our customers and partners to solve their most complex data challenges and accelerate their business outcomes,” said Gieszl in the LinkedIn post. “I also want to take this opportunity to thank my HPE family, friends, customers and partners that I have collaborated with over the years.”

Before taking on the GreenLake role, Gieszl was director and general manager of Northwest Enterprise sales for HPE. He was also previously an area vice president of sales and innovation for Oracle and spent 15 years at IBM, where he was a business unit executive leader in Middle East and Africa.

The new role comes with Lenovo recently moving its North American President, Vlad Rozanovich, into a new role overseeing the company’s worldwide infrastructure sales organization as senior vice president of worldwide ISG sales.

As part of its TruScale sales charge, Lenovo in January signed a global agreement with distribution powerhouse Arrow Electronics to provide the TruScale Infrastructure-as-a-Service offering through its ArrowSphere cloud management platform.

In June, Lenovo also said it has reached record annual artificial intelligence infrastructure revenue of over $2 billion and unveiled the next phase of its growth strategy, with an additional $1 billion investment over three years to accelerate AI deployment for businesses around the world.

C.R. Howdyshell. CEO of Advizex, a Fulcrum IT Partners company, one of HPE’s top GreenLake partners, said he was sorry to see Gieszl leave HPE. “Eric was active and impactful in the GreenLake deals we have done,” he said.

Howdyshell said Advizex has also had strong support from HPE North America Managing Director Paul Hunter and HPE GreenLake North America Vice President Brian Falvey. “We need HPE executive support in positioning and winning with GreenLake,” he said.

As for Lenovo, Howdyshell said he was not surprised the company is stepping up its Lenovo TruScale consumption game. “The customer appetite and demand for Everything as a Service on a single bill is off the charts,” he said.
