IBM Sponsors Innovation Initiative For Startups

IBM sponsored the city of Boston’s latest innovation initiative, StartHub, which the mayor officially launched Tuesday afternoon.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh was on site to unveil the program, which features an interactive online platform through which entrepreneurs can access information around industry news and investors, among other updates.

’In the long term it’s going to be a powerful tool for economic development,’ Walsh said.

IBM's general manager of cloud ecosystem and developers, Sandy Carter, said the sponsorship represents IBM’s commitment to supporting startup ecosystems.

’You know, companies start small and then they grow big, and we want to be their partner all throughout,’ she said.

Carter said startups play a crucial role in the development of enterprise technology.

’Startups are disrupting industry everywhere. The market is moving faster than ever before, and I think enterprises who think they can’t be disrupted by a startup of two kids in a garage are not in the environment of today that they need to be. Most of the enterprises I talk to today, they want to capture that innovative spirit, but they want to bring it within their own culture,’ she said.

Carter will be a featured speaker at theNexGen Cloud Conference, Dec. 9 - 10 in San Diego, hosted by The Channel Company, the publisher of CRN.
