Sun Formally Replaces Services Chief

Don Grantham took over Peterson's former position of executive vice president of Sun Services, while Eugene McCabe became executive vice president of worldwide operations, assuming that part of Peterson's former role. Both executives report directly to Sun President and COO Jonathan Schwartz.

Both Grantham and McCabe were promoted from previous posts within Sun. Grantham most recently was senior vice president of global customer services, acting as Peterson's righthand man to ensure services were a part of Sun customers' decision making, according to Sun. McCabe most recently was senior vice president of worldwide operations for Sun.

Sun, which has been trying to make services a more integral part of its business, said its services organization is the fastest-growing unit at the company. A Sun spokeswoman said Monday that in spite of the executive shuffling, services remains a critical part of Sun's business.

News surfaced last Friday that Peterson was leaving her post after just a year at the job, and just a week after hosting a roundtable discussion with press and analysts in Sun's San Francisco office. Peterson took over when former Sun Services executive vice president Patricia Sueltz left Sun late last February to join Salesforce.com as president of the hosted CRM company's Technology Marketing and Systems organization.
