Report: AMD Delays Dual-Core Notebook Chip
Citing sources at Taiwan notebook manufacturers, DigiTimes said AMD's first dual-core CPU designed specifically for notebooks is being held up because of slow demand in the worldwide mobile market as a result of Microsoft's decision to delay the release of Vista, the next version of its Windows operating system. DigiTimes said the chip was expected to be released May 9 but now has a June ship date.
The Vista delay, pushing the release date from late 2006 into 2007, has already rankled a number of U.S-based solution providers who had been counting on a fourth quarter release to help spur end-of-the-year demand.
An AMD spokesman declined to comment on the report, beyond noting that the X2 was on schedule to be released in the second quarter of the year.
