Dell To Build PCs In India

Dell (Austin, Texas) signed a memorandum of understanding to set up the plant Thursday (Sept. 14) with Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi. The company originally announced its intentions to establish manufacturing in India in May, to meet increasing sales here.

Dell will invest $60 million in the plant, which will employ over 1,000. Dell's suppliers are also likely to locate near the plant.

Computer makers HP and Lenovo already have India plants. Unlike its rivals who only assemble PCs in India, Dell said its new plant would be a full-fledged facility.
