Dell's Marengi To Retire
The Round Rock, Texas-based company told Reuters that Marengi, 51, would step down in March. It marks the second announcement of a high-profile executive departure from the company since late December, when Dell Chief Financial Officer James Schneider stepped down from the CFO post. Both Marengi and Schneider have also been members of the board of directors of Dell Financial Services in addition to their executive roles at Dell.
The new business units at Dell will include one that focuses on education, health and government with the other focusing on Dell's core corporate business.
Marengi joined Dell in 1997 after working at Novell, where he was president and chief operating officer. At Dell, Marengi became one of the company's top executives in North America, overseeing much of its commerical sales and services businesses. In the past year, however, Dell's sales and profit margin have been under pressure and the company also faces investigations into its accounting by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
