AMD Launches Three Chips For Mobile Devices
The AMD Imageon 2298, 2294, and 2192 media processors can support camera functions up to 12 megapixels, and DVD-quality video playback and recording, the Sunnyvale, Calif., chipmaker said. The chips also support TV output, video telephony, and other functions.
The three new chips are now available to device manufacturers. Mobile products based on the processors are expected to start shipping early next year.
Meanwhile, AMD released at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference in San Francisco on Monday additional architectural features for its upcoming quad-core AMD Opteron processors. The features include enhancements to the company's "PowerNow" technology, which enables systems to reduce power consumption by dynamically adjusting frequencies at the individual core level.
The quad-core Opterons are scheduled to ship in the middle of the year.
