Xerox Launches Low-End Color Laser Printer
The Phaser 6125 joins the Phaser 6230 and 6280 in a family of lower-cost laser printing solutions that the Norwalk, Conn.-based company hopes will help it establish a stronger foothold in the SMB market.
"We know that the SMB customers are looking for good values, and we knew that by introducing the 6125 we can reach price points that attract more of the SMB market, especially users for whom price is a major barrier. Price is very critical," said Robin Wessel, director of product marketing for desktop at Xerox.
Designed for the very small business with one to three users, the Phaser 6125 retails for $349 and can print up to 12 pages per minute in color and up to 16 pages per minute in black and white. It comes with a pre-installed toner cartridge to allow for immediate use and has a 333Mhz processor and up to 64 MB of available memory.
Because it's an out-of-the-box solution, Wessel said that it is more likely to help Xerox resellers by upping the brand recognition among SMBs.
"The 6125 is probably not a product that's highly integrated with solutions," Wessel said. "One of the big barriers to attracting SMBs to Xerox [is a lack of] general brand awareness."
The Phaser 6125, hopefully, will help turn that around and help the company break ground in a market traditionally dominated by heavyweight Hewlett-Packard. "We've seen this happen already where we introduce a product, it gets a lot more eyeballs and a lot more people thinking about the products that are available. In a way it's a classic sell opportunity for many of our VAR partners because there is a lot to offer when you go from the 6125 to the 6130 and up and beyond, to introduce the customer to the line," Wessell said.
VARs will have more opportunities, he said, with the existing Phaser lines.
"We have now a trio of products all based on the Xerox laser technology, with great quality, very fast capability and speed. We have good-better-best, a full range of capability. There's such consistency between these three products we make it easier for our resellers to step customers up with a consistent line," he said.
